A massive recall affecting more than 500 varieties of frozen waffles has been issued by the company that manufactures them, according to a press release.
TreeHouse Foods, which produces frozen waffles for store brands, including those belonging to Target, Walmart, Aldi, and more, announced the recall last week.
The recalled items were sold across the United States and Canada at major retailers, including Walmart, Aldi, Dollar General, H-E-B, Publix, Target, Food Lion, Hannaford, Tops, and more.
The waffles were recalled because they may have been contaminated with listeria, according to the company.
Other recalled waffles were sold under the brands Foodhold, Simple Truth, and Kodiak Cakes.
TreeHouse Foods shared that there have been no confirmed reports of illness as a result of the recalled pancakes. However, consumers are encouraged to check if they have any of the recalled items in their freezers. If they do, they are advised to return them to where they were purchased or throw them away.
Listeria infections can result in symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, confusion, convulsions, loss of balance, and stiff neck. They can begin to show up rapidly or up to 10 weeks after consuming contaminated food.
Infections can be dangerous for those who are older, pregnant, or have a weakened immune system.
The potential contamination was discovered while the company was conducting routine testing of its manufacturing plant.
