A new study by Johns Hopkins University has found that over half of all young adults in America are overweight or obese.
The study analyzed over 8,000 people between the ages of 18 and 25 and found that the average body mass index had increased by 4.6 points in the last few years.
The result was 56% of those tested registering as obese or overweight.
It’s not just a curse of the youth though. The study found 42% of all Americans are obese, regardless of age, and 9.2% are considered “severely” obese.
Middle-income Americans actually faired the best with both low-income and high-income groups being much more likely to be overweight.
The study was published in JAMA.
