Political Analyst and “Lunchtime Politics” publisher Ron Faucheaux joined Newell on the show Tuesday morning to unpack some curious findings in recent national polling on President Biden’s popularity, American’s thinking on foreign military interventions, and the racialized political divide.

“Half of white Republicans agree that America is not a racist country, where only one in twenty - 4% - of white Democrats believe that America is not a racist country,” Newell began. “So 96% of white Democrats believe that America is a racist country. The majority of whites in this country are affiliated with what party?”

“Republican,” Faucheax said. “By a pretty significant margin.”

“And how do the independents break out by race?”

“Most independents are whites, although the percentage of independents who are African-American is a little less than you’d expect as a whole among the whole African-American community, but not a whole lot less… most Blacks and Hispanics are within the Democratic party.”

“And all of the major cities and urban areas have been under Democratic control for the last 60 years, so how is it that we get to a result that they believe that this is a racist country?” Newell said. “We're really a bottom up country, right? When it comes to the quality of life and the quality of what's going on in our communities as it relates to opportunity and everything else, it just really mystifies me that we reached this conclusion.”

“Well, white Democrats have recently become more liberal over time,” Faucheaux said. “Democrats are taking a more liberal position on some of these beliefs issues than African-American and Hispanic voters. And there's no question about it - when it comes to issues of race,  the Democratic majority is clearly on the side of the belief that there is systemic racism in the country and that big changes are needed. Clearly the Democratic party has very strong beliefs on race issues, and those issues are not shared by most Republicans.”

“I was just flabbergasted by this finding,” Newell said. “I mean 96% is about as close to a 100% as you can get in any poll. I was shocked that the number was as strong as it is. I mean, do they not realize that they've actually controlled policy at the state and local level in this country for a long, long, long time?”
