AKRON, Ohio (WWJ) -- A tattooed-face felon is facing a long list of charges after two alleged carjackings and the kidnapping of three children in Ohio last week.

On Thursday, August 3, the Summit County Sheriff's Office said 44-year-old Mark Carlson carjacked a vehicle in Akron, but abandoned the vehicle when he ran out of gas about ten miles away, in the city of Green.

Carlson then went to a BP gas station on Arlington Rd., where it's alleged that he tried and failed to carjack another victim.

Sheriff's officials said that's when Carlson ran to the Taco Bell next door, where he carjacked a mother who was sitting in her vehicle in line at the drive-thru with her three young children.

There was a struggle, according to the sheriff's office, as Carlson forced his way into the woman's car and ultimately drove away with the kids, ages 6, 5, and 2, inside.

A short distance away, officials said Carlson crashed into the building, and let the two older children out of the car before driving away with the 2-year-old still in the backseat.

Carlson then drove to the Circle K on Massillon Rd. where he removed the remaining child from the car before fleeing on southbound on I-77.

Sheriff's office patrol units pursued Carlson southbound and then northbound on I-77 before Carlson abandoned the vehicle at Shelby Ave. and Evers St. Carlson then fled on foot into a wooded area, with deputies in pursuit, and was taken into custody with help from the Akron Police Department.

The sheriff's office said one of the deputies was transported to a hospital by the Akron Fire Department, but officials did not say how the deputies got hurt.

No injuries to the children or their mother were reported.

Carlson was booked in the Summit County, charged with three counts of kidnapping, plus aggravated robbery, theft, failure to comply with a police officer, parole violation and escape.

Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction records show that Carlson has a previous felony conviction for a burglary in 2019.

His bond was set at $500,000.
