Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has proposed a resolution to rename the popular cut of beef known as the "New York Strip" to the "Texas Strip" within the Lone Star State. Patrick announced his intentions on social media, stating that the name change would better reflect Texas' status as the leading cattle producer in the United States.

Patrick's proposal comes after a meeting with the Texas Cattle Feeders and Cattle Raisers, where he questioned why the cut of beef, which is often sourced from Texas cattle, should bear the name of a state known primarily for its dairy cows. He emphasized that the rebranding would promote the Texas brand and benefit the state's economy and job market.

The New York Strip, a cut from the short loin of a steer, gained its name from the famous Delmonico's Restaurant in New York City, which first listed it on its menu in the 19th century. Patrick argues that it is time for Texas to receive the credit for its hard-working ranchers and the high-quality beef they produce.

The resolution, if passed, would encourage restaurants and grocery stores in Texas to update their menus and labels to reflect the new name. Patrick hopes that the change will catch on nationwide and even globally, further solidifying Texas' reputation as the cow capital of America.
