During an interview on Sunday, former Vice President Mike Pence took a couple of shots at his former boss and Republican competitor, saying that former President Donald Trump’s positions on numerous topics are not conservative.

Among Trump’s positions that Pence criticized include his stance on abortion and the national debt limit.

Pence made his comments while speaking with Chuck Todd on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”

“Look, in 2016, Donald Trump promised to govern as a conservative,” Pence told Todd. “But he makes no such promise today. Not only has he been walking away from a clear commitment to the right to life, but look, we have a national debt the size of our nation’s economy.”

The former vice president then went as far as to say that Trump has the same position as his top rival.

“Donald Trump’s position on the national debt is identical to Joe Biden’s,” Pence said. “And to me, the Republican Party has to be the party of growth and fiscal responsibility and reform.”

Pence also took a shot at the president’s stance on abortion, despite Trump taking credit for the overturning of Roe v. Wade last year.

Trump was criticized by those in the Republican party after he referred to Florida’s six-week abortion ban as “too harsh,” while taking aim at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Trump has also refused to back a federal abortion ban, something else Republicans are looking for.

Like the Supreme Court in its ruling, Trump has said that the issue of abortion should be left up to the states, adding that exceptions to abortion restrictions are important.

This isn’t the first time Pence has criticized Trump, as he also shared his disdain for the former president when kicking off his 2024 campaign earlier this month and, earlier this year, when he spoke out about the events of Jan. 6, 2021.
