(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Commuters in Chicago's area known as The Loop are on high alert after a pair of Peregrine falcons was spotted protecting their nest.
South Branch Tavern and Grille sits under the building at 100 S.
Wacker. Employee Alex Barrajas says on most days it's a quiet, peaceful spot for a drink or bite to eat.
That is, until last week, when a customer with a baseball cap had a close call.
"We looked up, the hawk was taking the baseball cap away,” Barrajas said.
Since then, he said he's seen the falcons take another baseball cap and bother other pedestrians.

"We just started seeing random people minding their own business walking, left to right, from Adams and Monroe, trying to catch a train, and all of a sudden you see this hawk swerving overhead and just come diving down. "
He has even had a few run-ins with the birds himself.
"They have a nest. They're doing what they can. We just happen to be in their way,” Barrajas said.
