The Biden Administration is launching an effort to go door-to-door to offer people the opportunity to get the vaccine for COVID-19. This is causing some on the far-right to sound the alarm that this is government overreach with the intent of tracking citizens and is opening the door to confiscating your guns.
If that instinctive reaction were not a frightening microcosm of political extremism it would actually be comical!
In announcing the new initiative, President Biden said, “Now we need to go community by community, neighborhood by neighborhood, and often times door-to-door literally knocking on doors, to get help to the remaining people protected from the virus.” The goal of the effort is to provide information and answer any questions people have concerning the virus and the vaccine.
Backlash immediately hit social media with fears that the government is using the excuse to vaccinate more people to intrude in our private lives with the goal of gathering a list of citizens that refuse to get the vaccine and using that information for nefarious reasons.
Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said the information will be used to “make lists of people who didn’t want vaccines” and use the information to “impact jobs, travel, or schooling.” Use of information in that sense is illegal and Gaetz makes the claim without a shred of evidence that it’s true.
Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (D-CO) ramped up the paranoia by saying that the Biden Administration is going to force Americans to get the vaccine and ventured into the idea that next year President Biden will use the same door-to-door approach to “confiscate” citizens’ guns.
My Pillow guy, Mike Lindell, did not pass up the opportunity to instill further paranoia saying that he was expecting the Biden Administration to look for an excuse to create a “big master list” and warned “it’s the mark of the beast” and “that’s in the Bible.”
It is logical to believe that misinformation continues to pollute logic. Records now indicate that 99.2% of the recent COVID-19 deaths are people who have not been vaccinated and case, hospitalizations, and deaths are highest in the states with the lowest percentage of vaccinated residents.
The Louisiana Department of Health is reporting a spike in cases and hospitalizations in the state. Following months of declining numbers, over 1,100 new cases and 348 new hospitalizations have been reported. As the more-contagious Delta variant spreads, there are increases in cases and hospitalizations being reported around the country. What do all of the new cases have in common - all involve people who have not been vaccinated.
The hysterical reaction of some on the far-right is further proof that creating fear in Americans is their new political platform and we should reject the continuing efforts at fear-mongering as comical nonsense.
