A San Diego County man has been arrested in Washington, D.C. near the Democratic National Commitee headquarters. Police reportedly found a machete and bayonet in the vehicle he was driving.
Forty-four-year-old Donald Craighead of Oceanside has been taken into custody on suspicion fo possessing prohibited weapons.
Capitol Police said the arrest occurred just after midnight on Monday. An officer patrolling the area near DNC offices noticed a Dodge Dakota pickup truck bearing swastikas and other "white supremacist symbols." The truck did not have a livense plate.
The officer pulled Craighead overnear the 500 block of South Capitol Street Southwest. Craighead reportedly told the officer he was "on patrol" and began spouting white supremacist rhetoric.
It is unclear if Craighead intended to participate in a major right-wing political rally planned at the U.S. Capitol this coming Saturday.
Capitol Police officials have not yet offered any additional details about Craighead or his arrest. An investigation is ongoing.
