Spirit Airlines has recently shared that moving forward, it may not allow passengers wearing “lewd” clothing and/or who have uncovered “offensive” tattoos on its aircraft.
The new policy from the low-budget airline was outlined in its contract of carriage, sharing that passengers may be kicked off flights if they are “inadequately clothed” or “whose clothing or article, including body art, is lewd, obscene, or offensive in nature.”
When it comes to how it defines being “inadequately clothed,” Spirit said this will include “see-through clothing; not adequately covered; exposed breasts, buttocks, or other private parts.”
Spirit updated its contract Wednesday, stating that a passenger could also be denied entry onto the plane if they have “an offensive odor unless caused by a qualified disability.”
Being denied boarding isn’t anything new to the world of airlines, as wearing short-shorts, leggings, or no bra have all sparked incidents where passengers were not allowed onto their flights.
KABC reported last October that three women were kicked off a Spirit flight for wearing crop tops. The women told the outlet they were hot on their flight from Los Angeles to New Orleans, so they removed their sweaters.
It was then they were confronted by a flight attendant, who allegedly said to “put something on.”
“He’s telling both of us [to] put our sweaters on. And then we’re like, ‘Oh, can we see a dress code?’” Tara Kehidi, one of the women booted from the flight, said. “Like, is there a policy that says we can’t wear crop tops on the plane?”
Spirit has not shared what prompted it to update the contract.
