It’s starting to seem like Black Friday is not a specific shopping day anymore so much as a whole season. And at Target, that season starts on Halloween.
Piggybacking off of how last year’s pandemic-induced sales were spread out over a longer period to reduce heavy traffic in stores, it appears Target’s approach will be similar in 2021.
The new twist will be deals labeled “Holiday Best” to signal that those prices will be the best of the season for that particular item.
“We know many of our guests are looking to shop early this season, and that value is incredibly important to them, especially during this time of year,” Christina Hennington, Target's executive vice president and chief growth officer, said in a news release.
"If a Holiday Best deal price does happen to go lower later in the season, Target’s enhanced Holiday Price Match Guarantee allows guests to price match items at Target through Dec. 24," the company said in a statement. That guarantee is already operational.
The company says that the Holiday Best deals will encompass hundreds of items across all of the store’s departments.
In addition to the ongoing pandemic, supply-chain challenges are causing shortages of certain items, causing experts to suggest shopping early this year.
Target is not the only major retailer looking to spread the holiday shopping season out. Walmart, Macy’s, Lowe’s, Best Buy and Kohl’s have announced similar strategies.
