A Florida teenager is in custody after attempting to rob a bank while disguised as a woman.

Police in Hillsborough County say the 17-year-old suspect entered a Wells Fargo branch on Sept. 6 and handed a teller a note claiming he had a gun and demanding money.

Security footage shows the teen carrying a purse and wearing a face mask, pink hair bonnet, denim jacket and pink skirt over his pants.

The teen then fled the bank on foot in an unknown direction. It's not clear if he got away with any cash.

A week later, police arrested the teen near a public storage unit just east of the bank. He was arrested without incident and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

Police did not say what led them to the teen, who is now facing a felony charge for robbery while wearing a mask.

"This incident serves as a poignant reminder that youth can be swayed down perilous paths, and it's our duty to steer them towards a brighter future," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. "Our commitment to justice and community remains unfaltering, even when dealing with the young and misguided."
