A local toy-store owner tells KMOX Radio in St Louis that the opening of the new 'Barbie' movie has provided a, "huge resurgence," for a toy that had been, "languishing, for a while."

Andy Tolch, owner of Andy's Toys in St Louis, says the wave may have already passed, "I tell people you gotta act quick. When a movie comes out, you really got to jump on it."

He says he tracked the sales of vintage 'Barbies', and prices may have already peaked in late June through mid-July.

"You may have missed the highest-wave, but they've still gone up in the last year," says Tolch.

Tolch says the 'Barbie' surge in values is similar to what he saw before the latest installment of the 'Indiana Jones' movies, a rise in prices before the movie was released.

"The peak seems to be right before the movie, and now they've kind of started to settle down again," says Tolch. "We see these trends, and definitely in modern times, trends seem to go faster. Everything seems to be more compressed."

The 'Barbie' movie debuted with a $155-million dollar opening-weekend according to Variety.
