President Donald Trump's campaign launched “Operation MAGA” on Saturday in an effort to keep the Republican's reelection momentum going as he remains hospitalized with coronavirus.
The campaign described the effort as “a full marshaling of top-level surrogates, campaign coalitions, and Trump supporters to rally behind the President and carry the campaign forward until the President returns to the trail.”
The campaign said Vice President Mike Pence would make in-person campaign appearances in key states, along with Trump family members Donald J. Trump, Jr., Eric Trump, and Lara Trump.
The campaign will host virtual events until the vice presidential debate on October 7, when the in-person events will start again.
“Operation MAGA will fire up the entire MAGA universe to keep President Trump’s campaign at full speed until our Commander-in-Chief returns to the campaign trail,” said campaign manager Bill Stepien, who also tested positive for the coronavirus on Friday.
In a press release, Stepien said the president’s supporters “will be out in full force to show the real enthusiasm behind the President’s re-election and to show we’re working as hard as he always does.”
“We also encourage all of the President’s supporters to pick up the banner themselves by volunteering in our grassroots Army for Trump, flying their Trump flags, putting out more yard signs, and wearing their MAGA gear proudly,” Stepien said.
Pence will begin a swing through key states following Wednesday’s debate in Salt Lake City. He also will make a stop in Arizona and at other events that haven’t been announced yet.
Members of the First Family will also host live events in battleground states beginning after Wednesday’s debate, and “the campaign will also deploy its coalitions, including Women for Trump, Black Voices for Trump, Latinos for Trump, and others, for events in key states,” the campaign said.
