Former President Donald Trump is champing at the bit to debate President Joe Biden, so much so that he wants to bump up the schedule and add more debates.

Trump's campaign has sent a letter to The Commission on Presidential Debates calling for additional debates and for them to be held "much earlier" than initially proposed. They say that over a million Americans will likely have already voted before the first scheduled debate on Sept. 16th in San Marcos, Texas -- and nearly 9 million by the third debate on Oct. 9th in Salt Lake City, Utah.

"The Commission must move up the timetable of its proposed 2024 debates to ensure more Americans have a full chance to see the candidates before they start voting, and we would argue for adding more debates in addition to those on the currently proposed schedule," the campaign wrote, adding that "the time to start these debates is now."

While he refused to participate in GOP debates, the former president told Fox News he is "totally committed" to debating Biden.

"I would fully accept any debate, anywhere, anytime, anyplace," he said.

"Perhaps [Biden] will, perhaps he won't. I really don't care," Trump added. "I am totally committed to debating him anytime, anywhere, any place."

Trump said a debate between presidential candidates is especially important because America right now is "not the same country that we had just four years ago."

"I think it is important that we debate and the earlier the better because people have to find out what is going on with America," he told Fox News. "We are no longer respected around the world. There are so many things that are happening."

Biden and his campaign have not yet committed to any debates against Trump.

When the president was asked about it in February, he quipped: "If I were him, I'd want to debate me too. He's got nothing else to do." When asked again last month, Biden said "it depends on his behavior."
