In an all-caps Truth Social post Thursday, former President Donald Trump – currently a presidential candidate – said that his second alleged indictment is “election interference.”
Even before he lost the 2020 presidential election, Trump has made claims that election fraud caused him to lose the race. Although no evidence of fraud has been found, he continues to make the claims.
“I am an innocent man,” he said in the Thursday post. He went on to claim that the Biden administration is continuing a “witch hunt” against him.
Earlier that day, the GOP frontrunner said that “The corrupt Biden Administration” informed his attorneys that he had been indicted over what he called the “Boxes Hoax,” referring to an investigation into classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago estate. In November, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that former career Justice Department prosecutor and former chief prosecutor for the special court in The Hague, Jack Smith, would serve as special counsel in that investigation.
“I think the likelihood of obtaining and sustaining a conviction here is strong,” said Norm Eisen, a former special counsel & assistant to President Obama for ethics & government reform. He joined KNX Radio in Los Angeles Thursday.
In his social media posts, Trump noted that President Joe Biden also faced his own investigation regarding keeping classified documents.
“I have been summoned to appear at the Federal Courthouse in Miami on Tuesday, at 3 PM,” said Trump. “I never thought it possible that such a thing could happen to a former President of the United States.”
In April, Trump was indicted for a “hush money” case regarding alleged money paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels. He said that he is innocent in that case as well.
