U.S. could reach 4,000 COVID deaths per day by October: report

Health officials worried about the surge in COVID-19 cases predict that at the current pace, the U.S. could reach 4,000 deaths a day by October, ABC News reported.

Their concern is prompting the return of mask mandates across the country.

COVID-19 cases are climbing in at least 49 states as the highly contagious Delta variant rages through the country. The surge in cases could overwhelm hospitals.

Arkansas, Louisiana, and nearly all of Florida are experiencing high levels of community transmission.

A Miami hospital facing overcrowding from patients has converted the building’s auditorium into additional space for beds, calling it one of several “dire steps.”
