A Massachusetts woman is accused of trying to kill her husband with poison soup -- and the story only gets stranger from there.
The daughter of 64-year-old Roxanne Doucette told police she found text messages on Doucette's phone suggesting she had poisoned her 73-year-old husband, WCVB reported.
Doucette had apparently been messaging with someone claiming to be Thorsten Kaye, an actor from the soap opera "The Bold and the Beautiful," whom she had given money.
In one message on December 1, the fake soap star told Doucette "You have to get rid of your husband honey. I need you so much." Later that day, Doucette replied she was "Making an amazing soup. Special potion. He will be hungry when he gets back. Just enough for him," according to police documents obtained by WCVB.
Two hours later, Doucette messaged the imposter that her husband wasn't feeling well. "Maybe I can collect life insurance," she added, WCVB reported.
"Honey, when will that be?" the scammer asked, to which Doucette said she didn't know.
Less than an hour later, Doucette called 911 and said her husband was unresponsive. He was rushed to the hospital, but survived.
Doucette's daughter told reporters that she and her mother were sitting at her father's bedside when she discovered the suspicious messages. At first, she thought her mom was just being scammed out of money, but then she saw more disturbing messages, WCVB reported.
When the husband regained consciousness, he said Doucette made him some soup but that it wasn't good and tasted bitter. According to WCVB, a toxicology screening came back negative -- but it only tested for opioids, cocaine and alcohol and not other substances.
Doucette's daughter contacted police with her suspicions and took her mother to the police station to be interviewed. Doucette reportedly admitted to messaging who she believed was the soap star but said she didn't hurt her husband.
At the police station, officers attempted to seize Doucette's phone, but she refused and allegedly kicked an officer. For that, she's charged with resisting arrest and assaulting an officer.
Doucette has repeatedly denied the poisoning allegations.
"[Thorsten was] saying that they loved me and they wanted me to leave my husband, but I had no intentions of leaving my husband. I love my husband very much," she told WCVB.
"What they say is wrong. Because I'm a wonderful cook. My son's gone to culinary school. I learned from the best — my mom," she added. "I did not try to poison my husband."
Doucette is now facing a charge of attempted murder and is under court order to stay away from her husband, according to WCVB.
