The city of New Orleans is using its NOLA Ready notification system to urge people to be safe as we get the first cold snap of the season.
In a Cold Weather Advisory, authorities suggest the following:
"With 1st cold of the season, check smoke/CO detectors & heat your home safely."
WWL TV Meteorologist Payton Malone says much colder air surges in overnight and during the day Monday.
"We'll start Monday cold and windy in the 40s. Skies will clear, and the afternoon will be sunny and windy."
Malone says it gets even colder Monday night and early Tuesday.
"Tuesday morning will be the coldest yet this season with a light freeze north of the lake and frost south."
He forecasts Lows north of the lake will fall to 28 with a light freeze and dip to 36 on the Southshore with patchy frost.
