Uncertainty in the forecast track for Tropical Storm Eta has shifted the cone of error for landfall off of the Florida peninsula and much further to the west.
That means for the 8th time this year, New Orleans is on the cone for a tropical system.
The National Hurricane Center's official track calls for Eta to make landfall near the Florida - Alabama state line late on Saturday night.
As of 2:00am, the center of Tropical Storm Eta was stationary off of Cuba.
"Little overall motion is forecast today, with a slow northward motion is expected tonight through Thursday," the Hurricane Center advised. "Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph."
Some strengthening is forecast during the next day or two as Eta gets near hurricane strength, but weakening is expected after that.
Eta is forecast to make landfall as a tropical depression.
Forecasters warn, however, that there is still significant uncertainty in what Eta will do and where it will go.
