New Orleans promises 'enforcement action' against 'bad actors'

French Quarter

The city of New Orleans entered Phase 3.2 of reopening Saturday, and Sunday officials were warning of consequences against those who were not following the new rules.

"Businesses not in compliance with Phase 3.2 guidelines will be met with enforcement action," the mayor's office said on Twitter.

"Our people have put in the work which has allowed us to ease restrictions, but actions that lead to super spreader events will not be condoned. We cannot go back."

It came as complaints were pouring in that some bars were allegedly not obeying the outdoor gathering limits and closing times.

"The City has been made aware of the crowds gathering in the FQ," the city posted, "The 11:00pm takeout alcohol & alcohol sales shut down rule was enforced in the French Quarter and throughout the city."

City hall said that while there were violations, most were following the guidelines.

"As we moved into Phase 3.2 yesterday, our businesses and our people have been complying for the most part."

The posts made it clear, however, that those breaking the rules would not be tolerated.

"As we continue to get reports of bad actors, our enforcement task force will investigate."
