NYCFC Selects Jesus Perez, Red Bulls Pick Seagrist, Dieye In 2020 MLS Super Draft

The 2020 Major League Soccer Super Draft took place on Thursday afternoon. Both New York City FC and New York Red Bulls fans have plenty to be excited about going into next season.

The Red Bulls traded up to the 10th overall pick, selecting Patrick Seagrist, who spent his college career with Marquette.

He made the All-BIG East First Team in 2018 and 2019 with Marquette. In his last season with the Golden Eagles, Seagrist led his team and the BIG EAST in assists with seven. Seagrist plays left-back and possesses great pace and speed. 

With the fifteenth overall pick, the Red Bulls selected midfielder Cherif Dieye. This past season, he was All-ACC second team. Dieye was born in Dakar, Senegal.

He led Louisville in every offensive statistical category this season. In 2019, Dieye had seven goals and six assists in 19 appearances.

The Red Bulls were the sixth seed in the 2019 MLS playoffs, falling to the Philadelphia Union 4-3 in the first round.

Seven picks later, NYCFC picked Jesus Perez 22nd overall. The 24 year-old was born in Trinidad and Tobago and spent the 2017 season with the San Juan Jabloteh.

Earlier this week, Perez leaked that he had signed with Dundalk FC, the League of Ireland Premier Division champions, through an unlikely source: his Tinder profile.

Perez joins a NYCFC team that was the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. After receiving a first-round bye, NYCFC fell 2-1 to Toronto FC in the conference semifinals.
