No doubt inflation and supply chain issues have made it a very difficult point in our time, but there is another key factor that’s leading to a shortage of supplies.
And wouldn’t you know it, we’re all a little bit to blame.
Experts from Texas A&M believe that while some shortages exist due to closed ports or a shutdown of facilities, consumers “overreacting” and buying as much stock as possible also contributes to the empty shelves we routinely see in our grocery stores.
Agriculture economist David Anderson tells the Dallas News that shoppers today are finding it hard to determine what shortages are “real,” and what’s been made worse by panicked shoppers buying what they deem “necessary” supplies.
And if people have hoarded supplies, Anderson cautions that it will take time to restock shelves.
So please, don’t panic at the grocery store!
