New campaign finance totals for the governor’s race were released today by the state Ethics Board and Republican Jeff Landry continues to have a huge advantage in dollars over his opponents. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says it’s just easier for Landry to raise money.
“People know he’s probably going to be governor unless something happens so they’re investing in him,” he said.
Landry is reporting $6.6 million in cash on hand. Republican John Schroder is reporting $ 1.6 million, while Republican Stephen Waguespack and independent Hunter Lundy have just over $1 million. Democrat Shawn Wilson has just $879,000 on hand.
Pinsonat says Wilson’s campaign campaign finance number has to be disappointing.
Pinsonat says the dynamics of this race has not changed since it started: Landry has all of the momentum because of the huge fundraising totals that he has over his opponents.
“Jeff Landry is his own biggest obstacle,” said Pinsonat.
Early voting begins September 30. The primary is October 14.
