The "Recall Cantrell" movement didn't take a holiday this weekend.
There may have been rain scattered across town over the holiday weekend, but recall vice chair Eileen Carter says it did not stop people from coming to their events.
"The rain did not stop the recall effort. I would say that's probably the most telling sign for us," said Carter. "We have had eight events so far, we have had them from Uptown to the East to West End and Mid-City to Algiers."
Carter says the first two events alone gathered seven percent of the signatures they will need. She said they're no longer offering updated totals on their website, nolatoya.org, for strategic reasons, but they aren't done.
"We have large events to come, hint-hint, so we are not going away, we are very real," said Carter. "I don't see this really going away unless some of these problems are being resolved."
Carter says every outrageous water bill, every unrepaired piece of city infrastructure, every time it rains hard enough to flood streets, only serves to advertise their cause.
"Those quality of life issues are not changing," she said. "They are affecting us every single day, they're affecting ourselves, our children, our businesses."
