The fall general election is Saturday, and one of the big races on the ballot locally is the Public Service Commission third district race contest.
In that contest, incumbent Lambert Boissiere is facing a challenge from policy analyst Davante Lewis. As the general election date nears, LAPolitics.com publisher Jeremy Alford says Boissiere is feeling the heat of Lewis's challenge.
"Lambert Boissiere last week loaned his campaign $20,000," Alford told WWL's Tommy Tucker, citing reports filed by Boissiere and published online by the Louisiana Ethics Committee. "That was on the heels of him loaning another $20,000 a couple days before Thanksgiving and, I think, another $80,000 in October."
Alford says those loans are a clear sign that Boissiere isn't taking his reelection for granted.
"To see an incumbent go into the well like that over and over and dipping into his own pocket is a clear sign that this challenge from Davonte Lewis . . . he's taking that challenge very seriously."
Alford also says it's a sign that other fundraising sources are not available.
"I think it's a clear sign you can't raise money anywhere else," Alford said. "If you're unable to raise money from the people you regulate or your supporters, you have to dip into your own pocket."
Polls will be open on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
