U.S. Congressman Cedric Richmond announces he will be resigning from his seat in Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District, to take a senior position with the Biden Administration.

Speaking Monday at a media conference, Richmond said he will be taking a position as Senior Advisor to the President and White House Director of Public Engagement.

“And so, this new role will allow me to offer advice to the president when he wants it, maybe some times when he doesn’t want it,” Richmond said. “There will be an office in the West Wing, and when talk about the needs of Louisiana you want someone in the West Wing.”

“This is a sad day for me to announce that I am leaving something I fought so hard to get. To say that I am leaving something that means so much to me,” Richmond added. “But, I do want you all to know, I am not leaving the people of Louisiana. I am not leaving the people of the 2nd congressional district. I am New Orleans through-and-through, I bleed Black and Gold.”

Richmond served as national co-chairman of Biden's presidential campaign. He will be vacating his U.S. Congressional seat before January 20th.
