State Senator Cameron Henry is likely to be the Senate president when the new legislature picks its leadership.
Henry, a conservative Republican, has the support of Governor-elect Jeff Landry, according to NOLA.com.
Henry sought the role of Speaker of the Louisiana House after the 2015 elections, but finished behind New Iberia Republican Taylor Barras.
Voters elected Henry to the state senate in 2019.
As president, Henry would have the power to pick senate committee chairs and other committee assignments.
