NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD officer who was suspended without pay for blasting “Trump 2020” over his patrol car’s loudspeaker over the weekend should be allowed to return to work, President Donald Trump said Tuesday.
The department on Sunday said it suspended one of its officers after a video taken in Flatbush, Brooklyn showed him using the speaker to endorse Trump.
In a tweet posted Tuesday morning, Trump threw his support behind the officer.
“Thank you to the most incredible people on earth. I stand with you 100%,” he wrote. “Get that great Officer back to work!”
Trump’s tweet was a retweet of a Sergeants Benevolent Association tweet that shared a story about the suspended officer and claimed police officers across the country “are advocating for TRUMP and rightfully so.”
“The Democratic Party has abandoned police officers, encouraged violence and lawlessness,” the SBA wrote. “People are being murdered in Democratic run cities.”
The NYPD on Sunday said it suspended the cop because police officers “must remain apolitical.”
