Former President Donald Trump was able to squeeze in a visit to at least one local institution while in the area Tuesday to attend a high-dollar political fundraiser in Metairie.
Trump was able to get an order of café au lait and beignets at Café Du Mond in the French Quarter before the $23,200-a-plate event in Old Metairie.
Polls show Trump is beating all others in a crowded Republican campaign field. A nationwide survey of registered Republicans by Louisiana polling firm JMC Analytics found the former president has support of 53 percent of the 1,100 surveyed.
Local developer Joe Canizaro hosted the fundraiser, which had the goal of raising $1.75 million. Canizaro told NOLA.com he expects the event raked in more than $2 million.
