Purple Heroin kills in Jefferson Parish, 1st death in Louisiana

Heroin

A potent and deadly drug has claimed its first life in Louisiana. The Purple Heroin overdose happened in Jefferson Parish.

The coroner says there have only been about 30 Purple Heroin deaths across the country, and now there has been one here.

Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich says, "The public should be on full alert due to the extreme danger of this drug."

The drug is a synthetic opiod called Brorphine.

Cvitanovich calls it "as potent and dangerous as Fentanyl, making it up to 100X more potent than morphine."

The coroner did not offer any information on the dead individual, but did says that they died in Jefferson Parish.

He urged everyone to avoid Purple Heroin.

"This drug has the potential to cause widespread harm," Cvitanovich insisted. "Brorphine is commonly packaged as a purple crystal or powder, but has also been seen as a gray or white powder."
