Rash of carjackings in New Orleans Monday

Gun

The NOPD reports five carjackings Monday in New Orleans. A sixth person was robbed of their car at gunpoint, but had walked away from the vehicle before the crime. That technically makes it an armed robbery, not a carjacking.

It started early Monday morning with a woman carjacked in the 700 block of South Jefferson Davis Pkwy.

At 1:32am, police say the 32-year-old woman was parking her car.

A police report says, "(A) white sedan pulled in front of her. Armed suspect exited passenger side of sedan and demanded victim exit at gunpoint. Victim complied. Suspect fled in victim’s vehicle."

The report only describes the suspect as an unknown black male.

Then Monday afternoon a 55-year-old woman carjacked .

It happened just before 5:00pm at Saint Roch Ave. and North Miro St.

"Suspect approached victim, who was in her vehicle, opened door and demanded victim exit. Victim complied. Suspect fled in victim’s vehicle."

In this incident the suspect is only described as an unknown suspect.

About 30 minutes later, there was another carjacking.  This one happened at Prentiss Ave. and Eads St.

"Unknown armed suspect approached victim and demanded victim’s vehicle. Victim complied. Suspects fled in victim's vehicle."

The victim was a 29-year-old man.

The suspects described as, "Two unknown suspects."

Just after 8:00pm the 4th carjacking of the day happened in the 2100 block of Alvar St.

A 36-year-old woman and a child were the victims.  It happened when the woman got out of the car.

"Victim #1 stepped away from her vehicle. Suspect approached and ordered Victim #2 out of vehicle. Victim complied. Suspect fled in victim’s vehicle."

Unknown Suspect is how police described the carjacker.

About an hour later, the 5th carjacking went down in the 11900 block of the North I-10 Service Rd.

A 47-year-old woman told police two unknown black males took her car at gunpoint.

"Victim loading her vehicle when approached by two unknown suspects. One suspect pulled out handgun and demanded victim’s keys. Victim complied. Suspects fled in victim’s vehicle."

The sixth incident was just after 9:30pm in the 13900 block of Linden St.

A police report describes it as an armed robbery with gun.

This time a 49-year-old woman walked away from her car, but didn't kill the engine.  An "unknown black male" not only took the car, but held her up for what she had on her person too.

"Victim entered location and left her vehicle running. When she returned to vehicle, suspect pointed gun at her and demanded belongings. Suspect fled in victim’s vehicle."
