There could be some fans at the Saints - Panthers game Sunday.
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell's Director of Communications Beau Tidwell today said talks with the Saints about returning fans to the stands in the Superdome have been productive.
"Our intention at ever stage and certainly going forward is that we have a phased and gradual reopening that's in line with how we have handled reopening all other sectors. It's not a special case exception; it's a phased and gradual, incremental return to fans in the seats."
Tidwell did not offer any specifics, but did say talks are continuing today. He advised that there could be an announcement in the next day or so about some fans allowed in for the game Sunday with the Panthers.
"The mayor absolutely wants to see fans in the seats. She wants to cheer for the Saints just like everybody else. We have to make sure are doing it in a safe way that does not have us regress."
He did say that twenty-thousand fans would be too many as a starting point.
"Twenty-thousand people in an indoor space does not feel safe to us right now."
Tidwell explained that the city's health department is talking to the Saints today about what the appropriate number would be.
