It’s sad when some people start off with so much in life and blow it. Cher and Gregg Allman were married for just 9 days, but they had a son, Elijah Blue. In an interview Cher once said that she will never regret her brief marriage to Gregg because for whatever reason God wanted those two to come together to have a child. Imagine the benefits the son of Cher and Gregg Allman would have?
Elijah Blue Allman was arrested on March 1 just days after he was arrested for causing a disturbance at an upscale prep school. On March 1, police responded to a break-in at a residence in Windham, New Hampshire. Officers determined that there was forced entry and 49-yr-old Elijah Blue Allman was taken into custody without incident. Allman was charged with burglary, two counts of criminal mischief, and breach of bail.
Police were originally alerted to a break-in by a man who entered the back door of the residence. The resident of the house was hiding in a closet during the break-in. Police found Cher and Gregg Allman’s son sitting in the living room on the couch smoking a cigarette. Nothing was missing in the house. However, Allman did drop the lit cigarette causing about $1,000 in damages to the carpet and about $1,700 in damages to the door, which made the crime a felony.
This arrest happened days after Allman was taken into custody for causing a disturbance at an upscale prep school in Concord, N.H. Allman was detained and charged with two counts of simple assault, criminal trespassing, criminal threatening, and disorderly conduct.
Elijah Blue Allman was prone to substance abuse and there were drug-related incidents in the past. The son of Cher and Gregg Allman was obviously troubled.
For those of us who started with nothing and worked and overcame challenges and rejection to make something of our lives - it’s hard to understand why someone with money and possible connections through his parents would squander everything and fall into a life of drugs and disarray. While it may be unfair to judge anyone whose life we really don’t understand - it is fair to express frustration over those who appear to have had so much potential that was wasted.
But there are questions to be asked. Did Gregg Allman’s known drug and alcohol abuse affect his relationship with his son? Gregg died in 2017. Did Elijah Blue inherit Gregg’s addictive nature? Was Cher an active mother or was she too consumed in her career and her infatuation with plastic surgery? Or was Cher distracted by her daughter Chasity transforming into Chas? I’m not trying to be mean, but I do wonder about the celebrity parents who were so into themselves that they didn’t have time to parent. Who knows - maybe Cher was an ideal mother?
Cher can ask herself what she might have done differently. For Gregg - it’s too late.
I feel badly for Elijah Blue if he missed out on having active parents that loved and cared for him. One would think that with Gregg Allman being your father and Cher your mother that money is not an issue. But money doesn’t make up for the love that comes from parents. Ask Karen Carpenter about that.
