Congratulations to Donald Trump!
Former President Donald Trump is again President of the United States. With a convincing win, Trump is back in the White House. Early this morning, Trump pushed over the 270 threshold of electoral votes needed to secure the election hitting 277 with Vice President Kamala Harris falling behind with 224 electoral votes. More surprisingly Trump became the first Republican to win the popular vote since George W. Bush in 2004. Trump won the popular vote by 15 million votes gaining 72.5 million (51%) to Harris’ 67.5 million (47.5%). What seemed to evade the pollsters was the degree with which Trump won Black, Latino, and young voters. And for the record - the polls were not accurate. The pollsters need to figure out how to better poll the populous to regain credibility.
By 10:00 pm Tuesday night, the map of the United States looked like it did in 2016 when Trump won the election and at that point it seemed obvious that Trump was on his way to victory.
Giving credit to Donald Trump for winning the election, the loss by Kamala Harris raises questions. Harris proved that you have to be more than just an alternative to a controversial candidate. It’s hard to win an election campaigning on the idea that you’re not the other candidate. Harris was weak with answers to questions and her refusal to completely divorce herself from the Biden policies and legacy spelled doom for her campaign. As I said countless times on my talk show, the Biden Administration failed to give the American people the feeling that they were doing anything about the border and the image of illegal immigrants pouring over the border. By campaigning in the shadow of Bidne, Harris owned the border crisis. Biden gave Trump, or anyone else who would have run, a powerful campaign issue - a border that is out of control.
While many Americans, including many conservative Republicans, benefited from a booming stock market under Biden, the everyday issues of higher prices at grocery stores and at the pump were real-world issues to average Americans. The border and the economy were winning issues for the Republicans.
I hate to bring this up, but when you think about America as a whole, there is a possibility that gender and race were factors in Harris’ loss. We can talk about how evolved we are and how much we do not judge based on race or gender, but the truth is that many Americans are not evolved and still may have a hard time with a woman, especially a woman of color, in the White House. But, I don’t believe those are the primary reasons Kamala Harris lost. In spite of all of the ridiculous things Trump said and did on the campaign trail, he still represented the best hope for enough Americans to make him the winner.
I talked about how absurd it was for Trump to be declaring the election “rigged” and voter fraud before the election because what if he wins? Should we still believe there was voter fraud and the election was stolen by the Republicans?
Donald Trump made many promises during the campaign. He promised to end inflation immediately and he promised to close the border immediately. I think it’s unrealistic to think that these, and other promises, will be fulfilled immediately. Those are nice campaign promises that are not always easy to manifest.
Many of the things Trump talked about during the campaign should create a sense of uneasiness within America. The idea that Trump will retaliate against those who disagreed with his opinions and his campaign and the suggestion of using the military against the “enemy from within.” and Trump was specific about those he considered the “enemy from within” - Nancy Pelosi, Liz Cheney, and Adam Shiff were a few specific names mentioned. As I wrote in one of my blogs during the campaign, American politicians and American citizens who have not threatened the United States should never, ever be considered the “enemy from within.” Citizens have the right to disagree, even passionately disagree, with anyone running for office or any sitting president and disagreement of opinions or policies should never be considered an attack from an “enemy from within.” Will President Trump execute his promise to retaliate against his definition of the “enemy from within.”
Will President Trump and his allies manifest the controversial Project 2025? The project was written for the moment Donald Trump became president and that moment is here. Will abortion rights totally disappear? Will pornography be outlawed? Will the fundamental structure of the federal government change and become an all-Trump serving government -even the DOJ and the FBI? These are serious questions and I believe we will begin to see Project 2025 become reality soon Trump is inaugurated in January 2025. Wonder how those Trump supporters who said Trump has nothing to do with that will feel when it becomes reality?
The election is finally over and there is no controversy over who won. So let’s try to unite in a way that reflects the image our Founding Fathers had of America. That will not be easy for some, but it is time to put the stressful and damaging debate behind us and start acting like the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!
