Is America running out of Kool-Aid? A caller on our show reminded me that a lot of Americans appear to be drinking a lot of it. - they are blindly following crusades with no actual facts to back up their beliefs.
David from Covington called in to challenge me on my comment that I did not think "The Sound of Freedom" was a piece of political propaganda. David tried to make the point that "they" want to throw Trump in jail because he wants to shut down the border, and illegal border crossings are where "they" get children for sex trafficking in the United States. I asked him to name any names of any of the people in the lucrative sex trafficking business who are benefiting from open borders - but David could not name anyone. After hesitating he finally just said it was the "deep state."
Claiming that the deep state is involved in sex trafficking and benefiting from illegals bringing young girls and boys across the border is purposefully vague and devoid of facts. David represents many Americans who have been told something - without any facts - that they are convinced is 100% true because they feel like it’s true.
There are no stats or facts that support David’ implicit claim that Democrats and Hollywood elites are the ones fueling the $150 billion sex trafficking industry. If there were stats and facts I would use that on my show. In "The Sound of Freedom," there are a couple of scenes of middle-aged white men who bought children for the purpose of having sex with them. In one case - a white male arrives in a hotel room in a drunken state to have sex with a young girl. This appears to be in a Central American/Mexican hotel. Another white male is caught with a young boy at the US/Mexican border. In neither case do I recall any reference or designation indicating that these men are Democrats or Hollywood elites. As middle-aged white men, they could easily be conservative Republicans. But right-wing radicals (not all conservatives or Republicans) have convinced a big segment of the American population that ONLY left-wing liberals are having sex with underaged girls and boys and that ONLY Donald Trump can put a stop to it - and there is zero proof that is the case. It’s ridiculous.
As much as we want to believe something is true, we all have an obligation as Americans to believe only that which is actually true and can be backed up with solid information rather than the political fairy tales that are spread on a regular basis. This is our challenge, and we are responsible for what we spread as the truth. I do not remember a time in this country when so many people were willing to believe total falsehoods. How does that coexist with being a good American?
