June is Pride Month and many Americans, including people here in Louisiana, oppose the idea of promoting pride among homosexuals in America. And why is there opposition?
Republicans in Colorado are divided over a shameful mailer sent out by the Republican Party of Colorado that bashes Pride Month and declares that “God Hates Flags.” The mailer calls for the burning of all pride flags during the month of June.
The hateful mailer comes from the chairman to the Republican Party of Colorado, Dave Williams, who believes he is reflecting the values of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Republican candidate Vladamar Archuleta condemned the mailer from his own party saying, “I know Republicans in our state and in our city. They’re kind, accepting, loving, and welcoming people. They’ve become some of my best friends. They love this country, they love this state, they love our city, and they love their neighbors.” Archuleta added, “This email does NOT represent Republican voters of Colorado.”
Colorado Governor Jared Polis, the 1st openly gay man elected governor in America, criticized the mailer and through his press secretary said he will not “let the incoherent ramblings of a politician stand in the way” of celebrating Pride Month with my fellow Coloradans.
But the head of Colorado’s Republican Party told Denver TV station 9NEWS, “We make no apologies for opposing the woke Pride Month agenda as it ultimately harms children and undermines parents.”
Right-wing radicals and religious zealots have lost battles they have fought to ban sodomy, gay rights, and same-sex marriage. They have now begun a new strategy of trying to instill fear in Americans that homosexuals are coming after their children. This is a lie, yet there are those on the right who have been brainwashed into believing that homosexuals really are a great threat to their children.
Show me the statistics that support the fear that gays and lesbians are disproportionately luring children into sexual situations. Those stats do not exist.
Ironically, it is the perceived straight scout leaders, priests, religious leaders, uncles, step-parents, and perceived straight neighbors who are preying on children. While some Americans are busy promoting fear that gays and lesbians are the villains, heterosexuals from every walk of life are the ones who are taking sneaking in under the radar of the right-wing radicals and sexually molesting children.
It is both sad and amazing how easily some Americans are whipped into a false frenzy over a non-existent fear that homosexuals are the primary evil-doer s in sexually molesting children.
The condemnation of Pride Month comes from the very people who have been brainwashed about who is really molesting children.
Pride Month is a month to highlight the contributions gays, lesbians, and trans people make in our society. It is a time to attempt to educate the radicals who judge and fear people who are different. Those who cheat on their wives can be critical of the gay lifestyle because they are not involved in what they believe is their sinning, but the sin of cheating on one’s wife should be viewed equally as wrong in the eyes of God. And if homosexuals are married – what sin are they committing?
Quote all the Bible quotes you want, the act of judging others is one of the ultimate sins among Christians.
Let’s use this Pride Month to denounce the haters and to specifically challenge their judgment. And congruent with Pride Month – let’s love and accept those who have been condemned by American society for too long.
Pride Month is not just for the percentage of the U.S. population that is gay – Pride Month is for all of us who believe that Americans have a right to lead the life that is directed by their innermost compass – even if we don’t all understand the specifics of their love and their lifestyle.
