As soon as the much-anticipated debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump began I had the visual in my mind of a pit bull tearing into a pork chop. The performance by the President of the United States was pitiful and fears that Biden is too old, too feeble, or too mentally disengaged to run the country were confirmed.
I realize it was only one night, but it was an important night that was hyped by the Biden Administration and the Democrats as the moment Joe Biden would prove that he is mentally sharp and up to the job of being president for another 4 years. What I saw, and what so many Americans saw, was a sad depiction of a man who looked lost in every way.
When CNN repeated the entire debate later, I watched with the sound muted and just the visual was even worse. Donald Trump looked strong, confident, and in total control, while Joe Biden appeared like a lost soul who was completely confused.
Watching the debate with the sound muted showed a confident and powerful Donald Trump, but the muted sound also muted the lies. Both Biden and Trump lied. Trump’s major weakness was that he refused to definitively answer some questions by ignoring the question and using his time to respond to the last thing Biden said. Trump lied about abortion and killing babies after birth, economic statistics, and not saying “suckers and losers” when referring to U.S. soldiers.
Biden lied about being the only president this century that didn’t have troops die anywhere in the world, Trump wants to get rid of Social Security, and saying fewer people are crossing the border illegally now than when Trump was president was not completely true. So, both men lied in a situation where they had to know that they would be fact-checked on anything they said, but they lied anyway. Why is it so hard to tell the truth?
After the debate had begun and President Biden looked pathetic, the White House announced that Biden was dealing with a cold. We’ve all had colds and we’re not ourselves when we are dealing with a cold. If I took an antihistamine I would look just like Biden looked last night. But the reveal that information after it was obvious Biden was getting pummeled made it seem like the cold defense was phony.
Shouldn’t that information been forthcoming before the debate? Maybe Biden was reacting to whatever they gave him before the debate to help his performance, but the idea that Biden needs something to give him a boost to aid his performance is quite unsettling. We’re talking about the President of the United States.
Donald Trump controlled his temperament, in fact, both men seemed so scared of going over and having their mics muted that they both finished answers early and left a lot of time on the clock.
Trump got snippy, so did Biden, but there were no explosive moments from Trump and he appeared to be under control and focused. CNN’s choice to have a split-screen for much of the debate allowed the audience to judge Biden and Trump moment by moment.
President Biden often stood there with his mouth open staring at the floor while Trump was talking. He cleared his throat often and that may have led some credibility to the idea that he had a cold. Also, Biden’s voice was extremely frail and he may have known what he wanted to say but he mumbled to the point where I couldn’t figure out what the hell he was saying.
Biden, our current president, looked terrible in every way and that visually contrasted the pre-debate hype from the White House that we would see a strong, capable, and articulate Biden who would match Trump with facts and positive accomplishments while in office.
As I have said for months now, Joe Biden seems too old to be president. This debate was early and neither candidate was officially nominated by their parties. During the debate and continuing today, many Democrats are in a panic over Biden’s performance last night, but will there actually be a change in who the Democrat nominee will be?
Some of Biden’s advisors are out today saying that this was only one night and that there is no reason for Biden not to continue as the party’s nominee. I think the Democrats have no choice but to make a change. It will be difficult to make that change, but I’ll be surprised if we don’t see a shift in the polls following the debate.
President Biden is described as a man with great pride and conviction and he is unlikely to agree to retire, but if the man, Joe Biden, who has served this country for so many years, really cares about his party and America, he should announce that he will retire and then the Democrats will have the opening they need to replace Biden. Who will that be? There are qualified Democrats who never put themselves in the process because their party had an incumbent in the race.
Donald Trump’s best chance of winning in November lies in Joe Biden being his opposition. IF the Democrats convince Biden to resign and a new face enters the race, this will be the biggest nightmare scenario for Trump and the Republican party.
I just don’t see how the Democrats can continue with Joe Biden. With all the concerns there were about Biden’s mental and physical state leading up to the debate - last night Joe Biden brought all of those concerns to the surface. Biden needs to be replaced - soon.
