OPINION: Scoot: Why CNN and former President Trump helped each other

This week former President Donald Trump appeared in a town hall on CNN.

As a candidate and a president, Donald Trump savagely bashed CNN. CNN consistently downplayed the political legitimacy of Trump. Why then did CNN invite Trump to participate in a town hall? And why did Trump accept the offer from the "fake news" media he condemned?

The answer lies in the ratings.

Trump was a ratings bonanza for CNN. Usually a distant third in the ratings behind Fox News and MSNBC, the Trump town hall blasted CNN into the top spot with 3.3 million viewers. MSNBC was second with 1.36 million viewers and Fox News was last with 1.34 million.
