For a nation where many eligible citizens do not take the time to vote, scenes of long lines and stories of voters enduring hours-long waits to vote early should be a reassuring sign that America cares.

Extremely heavy turnout has been reported at early voting centers in places like, Texas and Georgia, where voters were showing a strong interest in the 2020 Presidential Election. Long lines were made longer because of social distancing.

It is estimated that as of Monday, October 12, close to 10 million voters had already voted either by mail-in ballots or in-person.

In the 2016 presidential election, 55.5% of registered voters in America voted. Even with all of the interest in the 2008 election with Barack Obama, only 57.1% of registered voters made the effort to vote.

Maine is the state with the largest percentage of registered voters: 77.10%. Surprisingly, Mississippi is second with 72.90% and the state of Louisiana has 65.40%.

Early voting in Louisiana begins this Friday, October 16 and continues until October 27.

The heated rhetoric from the pro-Trump and anti-Trump supporters appears to have inspired an unprecedented interest in the right to vote. Both sets of voters are passionate about who should be president.

I refer to “anti-Trump voters” as the voters who will be voting for Biden because many who are voting for the former vice president seem to be voting more against Trump than for Biden.

Voter turnout often determines who wins an election. In the key swing states of Pennsylvania and Florida, the majority of votes cast have been cast by registered Democrats, but that does not mean all of those Democrats voted for Joe Biden.

Anti-Trump voters hold such contempt for President Trump and all that he stands for that they are passionate about voting for Biden. Pro-Trump supporters are also extremely passionate about voting for Trump and against what they fear from a Biden victory.

Which set of voters is more inspired to vote - pro-Trump or anti-Trump - is the question to be answered after November 3.
