At least one person is dead after Slidell police and fire responded to reports of smoke near the airport Wednesday night.
"We were able to find a single engine aircraft that had crashed," Slidell Police Spokesman Daniel Seuzeneau said.
Crews used ATV's and drones to get as close as they could and confirmed one dead body.
"We unfortunately have discovered that there is at least one deceased," the said.
Darkness, fire smoke and woods kept them from being able to determine if there were any other bodies.
"There is a large debris field."
Family members of people on a plane that was missing said there were more people aboard.
The search continues today.
"We have... drones out right now looking to see if there are any signs of life in the area. We have multiple people still searching right now, trying to find any signs of life."
