Georgia voting rights activist, Stacey Abrams has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for her work in promoting nonviolent change at the ballot box.

"Abrams' work follows in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s footsteps in the fight for equality before the law and for civil rights," Lars Haltbrekken, a Socialist Party member of Norway's parliament said according to the US News and World Report.

King won the Nobel prize in 1964.

Abrams was responsible for massive grassroots organizing, leading huge voter turnout and ultimately the election of Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and two Georgia Democratic senators, Rob Warnoff and Jon Ossoff.

"Abrams' efforts to complete King's work are crucial if the United States of America shall succeed in its effort to create fraternity between all its peoples and a peaceful and just society," Haltbrekken said.

Other Nobel candidates this year are the Black Lives Matter movement, Greta Thunberg, the World Health Organization, and Russian dissident Alexei Navalny.
