Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Louisiana, the state's largest provider of health insurance, is being bought out by Elevance Health.
Elevance, formerly known as Anthem, is set to close the deal later this year.
Blue Cross/Blue Shield covers more than 1.9 million people in Louisiana. Elevance currently covers about 119 million people.
In a letter to policyholders, Blue Cross/Blue Shield CEO Dr. Steven Udvarhelyi says operations for the Louisiana insurance plan will remain at BC/BS in Baton Rouge.
A dollar value of the sale was not released.
