Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine is headed to distribution sites across Louisiana and elsewhere, ready for clearance to be distributed to prioritized recipients.

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy says we are on track in Louisiana to begin the first wave of COVID vaccinations mid-December.

“Pfizer already is shipping vaccine out. They are already being shipped, it’s on jets flying to locations to begin to be administered,” said Senator Cassidy. “Pfizer is already pre-positioning the vaccine around the country.”

The will be distributed thanks to local companies such as Shreveport pharmaceutical distributor, Morris and Dickson, and Ochnser in New Orleans which is home to one of the state’s few deep freezers capable of storing the vaccines at the required sub-temperatures.

Massachusetts drug maker, Moderna, also has a vaccine ready for distribution. The company is waiting for their emergency use authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Unlike Pfizer’s vaccine, Moderna’s vaccine does not need to be stored at freezing temperatures. A third company, AstraZeneca based in the U.K. is also fast tracking a vaccine.
