Louisiana recorded another increase in new coronavirus infections today.
Today's 947 new cases are more than nine percent of the 10,364 new tests. Louisiana's 454 COVID-19 hospitalizations are the most in the state since mid-March.
Nine more Louisiana residents have died from COVID-19.
State health officials say the new cases show people who have yet to get vaccinated are at increasing risk. More cases of the highly-contagious delta variant are being found in Louisiana patients.
"All people in Louisiana, especially those who are not yet vaccinated, should know they are now at increased risk of exposure to COVID-19 due to the more transmissible delta variant, and they should consider their personal risk and their family’s risk," said state health officer Dr. Joe Kanter.
