The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services is trying to fill 400 vacancies in a hurry. So they’re hosting job fairs around the state through December 15.
Secretary Marketa Garner Walters says they’re looking for people with big hearts.
“There are a lot of people who really feel called to help society, to reach out and pay it forward and do something good just to help families,” she said.
More about the specific jobs is available at dcfs.la.gov. She says they are looking to fill jobs in both of their major programs: Family support—helping low-income people get food–and especially child welfare.
“It might be a child abuse investigator, or a foster care worker or an adoption worker,” Walters said and added that the job fairs—held at nine locations around the state—help shorten the hiring process by several weeks. She said she is very excited at the response so far.
“So we encourage anybody that’s interested to just come and see. We’ll tell you right there on site what you can qualify for, what the salaries will be,” she said
The next upcoming job fairs will be held October 26 at the Slidell municipal auditorium, November 2 at the Lake Charles Civic Center, November 10 at the Delta Community College in Monroe, November 18 at the Houma-Thibodaux Civic Center in Thibodaux, December 1 in Alexandria at the Workforce Development Board/LWC at 5610B Coliseum Blvd., December 7 in Bossier City at the Shreveport-Bossier Career Solution Center, 4000 Viking Drive, and December 15 in Baton Rouge at the Downtown Welcome Center.
