After considering state-wide mask mandate, Edwards calls news conference on Monday

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said he will hold a media briefing Monday to discuss Louisiana's response to the ongoing fourth surge of COVID-19 cases in the state.

It comes just three days after Edwards said he was considering a number of requests to issue a state-wide mask mandate.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell issued an indoor mask mandate for the city on Friday.

The governor's news conference is set for 2:30pm.  You will hear it live on WWL 870am, 105.3 WWLfm on WWL.com and through the Audacy app.

As of Friday Louisiana had the highest rate of COVID case increases in the nation, along with among the lowest vaccination percentages.

The Louisiana Department of Health will update the coronavirus data Monday at noon.

On Friday, LDH reported 31 more COVID deaths, more than 100 more hospitalizations and 5,313 addition positive test results in a 24 hour period.

That brought the total coronavirus deaths in Louisiana to 10,999 with 1,740 COVID patients in hospitals in the state and 541,679 total cases since the start of the pandemic.
