Prices at the fuel pump are considerably lower than they were this time last year.
According to AAA fuel analyst Don Redman, the statewide average for a gallon of regular gas today is $2.85.
“If you’re filling up in your gas tank you know already know we’re getting a much better break than we were this time last year. Almost 40 cents a gallon cheaper than we were this time last year,” said Redman.
And when you compare Louisiana to the national average for a gallon of regular gas at $3.30, it’s 45 cents cheaper to travel in the Bayou State this Thanksgiving.
It’s welcome news, especially for those traveling over the river and through the woods to grandmothers for their turkey dinner. But Redman said despite the break at the pump this year…
“We’ve always found the price of gasoline itself doesn’t determine whether people travel or not, it’s how they feel about their personal economy,” said Redman.
Overall, Redman said things appear to be much easier on your wallet this Turkey Day…
“This is a great time that we’re seeing a break at the pump that we’ve been needing and even a little bit of a break at the grocery store,” said Redman.
