Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards is in Asia this week to reinforce economic development and trade ties. Gov. Edwards is accompanied by Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson, LED’s Office of International Commerce, as well as members of the governor’s staff.

The Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Eric Holl, says this trip is essential for the state’s economic growth.

“Asia Pacific countries, specifically Japan and South Korea are two of the most important economic partners that we have in Louisiana,” said Holl.

Louisiana has been ranked as the number one state for per capita foreign direct investment for 10 consecutive years and Asia-Pacific is a large portion of that investment.

“In the last ten years alone, companies in Japan and South Korea have invested more than $5 billion dollars in Louisiana and created nearly 4 thousand jobs,” said Holl.

Edwards will engage in meetings with major companies currently invested in the state and future partners.

“He’ll be looking to do as much as he can while he’s over there in order to encourage folks to invest in our state and create good-paying jobs,” said Holl.

Governor John Bel Edwards is expected to return this weekend.
