U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser announces a grand jury indictment of 24-year-old Acdane Campbell.
Campbell is a resident of Jamaica. Strasser says Campbell and other co-conspirators operated a scheme to steal money from elderly victims by convincing them they won a lottery, sweepstakes, or a car and have to pay taxes and fees in order to receive winnings that never existed.
The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service and Homeland Security Investigations.
If convicted, Campbell faces a minimum of 5 years imprisonment, a fine of not more than $250,000, supervised release of at least 3 years.
